Tliu nominatió'n is grAtefully oocepted, as the resolutions of the couveiUion - cal led the platform - are hearüly approved. While the resol ution in regard to the if republican eovnnnrient upon the Western" Continent is fuily concurred in, there miglit be misuadei;standing were I not to sny thiit the posilioo oí the government in relation to the action of Frnnee in Mexico, as assuined through the State Department, and indorsed by the Exeoutive, vvill be faithfully maintaintd so long as the state pi facts shall leave that position pertinent and applicable. I am eepeciully gratfied thut the soldiers and the 8eamn vvero not forgotten by the convention, as they forever must and wil! be reinernbered by tlie grattf'ul country for whose salvatiou they devote their lives.
