Tlio following, which wc clip froin the 'Toronto Leader may be of interest to -our agricultural friunds throughout the country : "Those of our fiioiids who either liavo fruit trees in their gardens, or who cultívate large orchards, wiil learn witli much gratificatiou that a cei tain instrutnentality of destruction to catorpillsrs has beeu disenvered. That coal oil will causo instant doatli lias been proved beyonl all doubt. On Saturday last a letter was received at the Leader office for publication f rom one of our subscribers, an extensive farmer in the township of Clerk, county of Durham, stating the fact that, as a last rceort to endeavor to destroy the caterpillars (which had al most taken entjro posiessiou of the trees in the orchard,) {o experimenteel with coal oil. Complete succosg attended the experiment. A beus'a of stiff leathers was made, and portions of tlie tree emeared with the oil, in addition to placiug a saiall (juuntity to the uests. - Instant death ensued. Tho proprietor of the Leader at once tested the oil on his trees at G-lengrovc Farm, Young st., where the eaterpülars had collected in thousands, doing fearful damago. In a couple of hours one quart of it had cleared the orchard completcly of caterpillars. The dead lay around in all di rectious. The effect of the oil on the pests seomod niiraonlous; there was no long delay to undergo, for one touch of the deadly substance to tho nests spread desolation in all dtrections. This is certainly a chonp remedy, as well as a euro one, and all our subaciibers troublcd with caterpillars should adopt it."
