-Some yeura ago a brutea doctor, a great acimirer oí music, was viaiting the Soulh and was petted in society. A fashionable lady friend of hia liad two pretty daughters who had just finished their education al a 'boarding echool' in this c:ty. Our Iriond, the docto, was iuvited to diñe, and asköd for bis favorito tune, and he requested the fair performer to play tbe Duke ol York's Murch It waa performed, but with 8uch fine fl urishes and variations, thnt he saw or heard but little or any of the Dukü of York '8 March in it. He wu8 again asked for bis preference. Thinking that lio was misunderstood in the tirat instance he again aaid, in a litt'.e louder voice : " Tho Duke of York's March, madam t" It was again performed as ftt first, but he still could not mrtke out Lis favorite, the Duke oí York's March. Upon being called upon the third timo, ho spoke vcry lud : ' Duke- of- York's- Mnrch !' ' Why, doctor, replied the lady, 'the Duke of York's March has been played tnice to you,' 1 Woll, well, said the doctor with great coolness, 'tho young ladies have played it so well I would be delighted to bear it for a third time.' All the States of the ünion are to be invited to furnigh statueg in marble or bronze, not exceeding two in number, ol decuitsad citizens illustrious for ther hintoric renown or di-tingnished civil or military service, to be placed in the National Hall, formely occupied H the Uouse of Reprtiientativus.
