BT LTDIA A. CALDWELL. June to-day lias been iinbinding All the beauty of lier hair ; The pure fragrance of her tresses Floats through all the golden air, Ar.d the greeimess of her garment Lies about us, everywhere. There is folded down an odor In each bud the sun unlocks There is laid a rosy garland On the brown and ruggod rocks , All along the brook's meander Gleauis the purple ot' the phlox. One would guess that late last ovening, While the sky hung calrn and blue, An unlooked tor wind had shaken All the stars in clusters through, And had bathed the sleeping meado ws In a shower of golden dew, For the Imttercups are flashing All about you as you pass ; Far adown the vale 'the cowslips Are one lush and golden masa, And the dandelion blossoms, Shine like genis among the grass. Where the birds, like painted shadows, 'Neath the branches come and go ; Where the brooks, with silver music, Through the vale melodious flow , 'Neatli the elm-tree's swinging branches Bloom the lilies like the snow. Here I've sat for full an hour, Gazing round me, like a child, Where the brook and river mingle With a raptare strange and -vvild - Where, about the cottage windows. High the lilac bloom is piled. And a sadness, like the dimness Coming o'er a twilight sky, Steals upon me ; I remember That the beauty which doth lie Like a golden dream about me, Like a dream will soon pass by. But a spirit falls upon me, E'en as erst the passing seer Cast the glory of his mantle O'erhis brother's grief and fear, And a voice is speaking to me Which my soul alone may hear. And I sit as I vrere dreaming, Till the soft melodious tune Of the waters to a murmn'r Low and liquid, seems to swoon ; In the spirit of thy beauty Is my soul baptized, 0 June.!
