Wc givc place in our columns to-day to a very full abstract of tho Report of the San Domingo Commissioners, togothcr with the Message of President Gkant transmiUing tho same to Congress. A eareful reading of the message and report can not fail to eonvince the caudid reader that the San Domingo scheme is in tho exact condition of the famous poolcet sung about by the poet in the following stanzu : "Lucy Lorkot lost ptickot, ICittii' Fisfiei toiĆ¼i'l ii. Tlicre waa notbiny in it. aothizig in it, Itut the bonter lound it." And so thero is nothing in the message, except the confession of the President that hc asked for the commission, not for any public purpose or good, but to clear up the good name of himsoli' and hi man, Babcock. And the report of the Comniissioners contains about as little new, certainly notliing cominensiuatc with t!ie oost to tho country. It gives assqranee that BaJBZ wants to sell the country -to the United States, and is confident that San Domingo would gain bj' being sold, but is silent as 1o the bencflts to be confernd upon tho purchaser, and does not say why we should pay for conferring benefits. But ivc will not discuss tho subject further at this time.
