The Xcw York TribwM says oodhul , & Claflin published in thoir nowspaper gome time ago a story to the effect that Jenny Lind's husband had squandered all her fortune, and the ill-matched pair had separatod by mutual consent. Throe i don journals were tash enough to copy this it of scandal, and Mr. Otto Goldsehtóidtj hilving Büed theni for libel, has just ret-overed three verdicts with damages amounting in the aggregate to $10,000. He might have had moro, but he only demandnd enough to reimburse his expenses in vindicating his icputetion. It appoared on the trial that not only are Madame Goldschmidt and her husband a veiy happy couple, but the fortune whieh belonged to the fainous singer when she marned has since been doubled, thanks in part to the excellent management of Mr. Goldsehmidt and his professional earnings. The wife testified with some emotion to her husband's jtindness and douiestic virtui's ; and Mr. Qoldsohmidt Rwore that, i'ar {rom being b gamblfir, he coxüd not so mueh as play whist, and instead of bcing a dissolute spendthrift he did not even snioke. The only regtet whidi the publxo will teel at tho-1'üsult of the libel suita is (at the originator of the malioious story could not have been made the victiin ot the verdict, even if the blow shoukl have fallen upon thcheads of Woodhull & Claflin.
