On somc of tbc Western railroads they have what are called ladies' cars, io which no male passengers are supposed fco bo admitted unless aceompanied by ludios and their escorts ; but as it frequently happens that the only other oars provided are exoeedingly filthy and un[jleasant, it is not always so satisfactory to gentlemen who are traveling alone. On the Louisville, New Albany & Chicago railroad, last February, a Mr. Kimball had taken a seat in one of these ladies' cars, and, after aecomplishing a part of his journey, was ordered by the brakeman to move into another car. Deelinhig to do so, he was grasped and held by the conductor while the brakeman and another man beat him severely. For tliis the railroad company, by the verdict of an Indiana jury, have been compelled to pay tho sum of $2,750 ; and it serves thcm right. A passenger in Maine has reeoverod a verdict of f8,850 against the Grand Trant railway, for tho abusivo and threatening conduct of a brakeman, who demandcd a sccond ticket or the cash from him after he had given up one ticket. The behavior of the railway employé was like that of a New York rough, and this cxomplary verdict was to ootne the passenger's rufflcd feelings, for he had received no hodily harm. Ön appeal the Supremo Court oonfirmed the verdict, sliowing that passengers cannot ba insultcd with imjunity in Maine.
