At each gato lo.iding to the Oatheedral a strong forcé of pólice wero stationed to aid tho Young Mon's Catholic Friend's Socioty in carryingout the jjrogramme of srrangemeatB and preserving orden About 9:30 o"olock tJie different Catholic societies began to arrij, and assisted by pólice sueceeded in reaching the places assigned them along Charles and FriinkHn streets. The Papal Zouaves, a c.ompany of young men from St James' Cnurch, uumbering sixty, were uniforraed in gray trimined with red, and boro sniall rifles. Delegatutns were present from Philadelphia. Two colorcd societies appeared in line. At 9:.'J0 tho sido door of the Cathedral was oponed to pow-holders and reporters of the press, and very soon tho Cathedral was filled in ovory part except a spacs reserved for the attending elergy. Tho formation of tho line was concluded about ten o'clock. In a few moment tho Cathedral bell was tolled, and tho bells of St. Alphcnsus' rung a requiem. The muflí cd drums soundcd a slow inarch, and the Papal Zouaves moved up above tho front gate, and wero formcd in doublé file, with arms reversed. The solemn cortego thon began descending the steps of the Archhishop's residenco. It was headcd by three young men, the center ono holding a' large crucifix, and those on each side large lighted candios. These were followcd by priests of tho different churches and students solemnly chanting, dresscd in the robes of thoir office. Tho first in order were Most Reverend Bishops Foley and Whelan, dressed in. oop purplo trailing robes, supportod by boys, who participated in tho singing, and followed by othor priests, also chanting. These were followed by a large numbor of gentlemen. Next came the bier and comn, draped in black cloth, and almost hidden under a profusión of the choicest flowers, arrangcd in crosses and garlands, and supported by bix pallbearers, meinbers of the Archbishop's Council. Tho Trustees of tho Cathedral' acted as honorary pall-bearers, and tho clorgy of the Archdiocese assistant pallboarers to the members of the Couucil. As tho procession passod along a most respectful silenen prevailed. The members of the different societies ranged alonsüto the walks with their banners draped in mourning, raised their hats, and the whole assemblage followod their example. Af ter tho proc.ssion entered tho church the gatos wero olosed, and tho religious services commenced.
