A Tromont street (Boston) auction store has yielded up a germine art treasure, a grimy old picture, that was knocked off at $1 87, but whicb, when tho buyer had cleansed it with warm water, provedto be a rluö portrait, and to bear on its back an Italian inscription, with this import: "Bartolomoe Passerotti painted with his hand his likeness at the age of 61 years, in Bologna. Prusented by hila to Mr. (jiïovanni Battista Deti on the ninth day of tho year 1571." Passerotti was the i'ounder of the Academy of Bolojnia ; ;tccording to Nagel's dictionary, ranked next to Titian, and died in 1")'J2, .The poitrait is remarkably cloar and distinct, without a single "restoration" or defect, but just as it carne from tho hand of the master. Photographs of it have been sent to Dresden to be compared with an ■ other portrait in the Dresden gallery, besides which there is only one other in existence. The face resembles Shakspearo ia a striking degree.
