A wise man will never rust out. As long a$ he can move o.r breathe he will be cloing something for himsclf or bis neighbor, or for posterity. Almost to the last hour of bis lite, Washington was at worlt ; so were Howard, and Young and Newton. ïhe vigor of their lives nevor deoayed. No. rust marred their spirits. It is a foolish idea to supposo that we must lio down and die beeauso we are oíd. "Whoisold? Not the man oí' energy ; not the day-laborer in gcience, art or benevolence ; but he only who suffers his energies to waste awny, and tho springs oí' lile to become motionloss ; on whose hands the hours drag heavily, and to vvhom all things wear the garb of glootn. "Is he oíd P" should not be ftsked but "Is he activo? "Can he breathe freely and ijaove with agility?" There are scores of gray-heftded men we should prefer in any important enterprise to young men who fear and tremble at approaching shadows, and turn pale at a harsh word or a frown, as at a lion in their path.
