The legal fraternity throughout the State is very muoh interested in the subject of tho new code. Judging frora the expressions which have been made ïnfonually tho subject is not regarded with favor. The matiego!' pleadings andprocesses instead of beiug simpliliod will be rendered, it is feaied, inore complex. - ■ Xuw York, Wisoonsin, California and other States have codes, and it is claimed that practice under them is more intncate, subteifugps mora numerous, and continuantes so easily obtained that lawyers haviug a hundred cases or so profit more largely by the fees obtained bycontinuing them trom term to term than they ruight over hope to by procoeding to trial. Ia this way, it is asserted, a litigant who has wealth may tire out justice, or, at any rate, help on oppression. At the recent mei ting tf members of the bar at Eaton Bapids some reiiyirks as to the necessity of the code wera indulged m, and, although one or two favored the proposed measure, the larSer numbur expressed an opinión much averse to it. - Besides, it was aeserted that the peraon whom che Governor had in view to appoint as commissioner to prepare a code under the act of the Legislatura was an inferior lawyer, lacking not only in general inforniation but in professional acquirements. The questioa was seriouely asked whether or not some action ought not to be taken in the case bjithe bar at large. Without any knowledge of the person reforred to, and without putting any faith in rumorsas to whom the Governor will appoint, it would seem as it" the making of an unacceptable code by an incompetent person would be a ready rneans of finully disposing of an obnoxious measure. At any rate, if tho lawyers, in the interests of the community and of justico, believe that a code of practice would be rather a hindrance than a help let them say so at their meeting July 9th, if they can without prejudging the case. All expressions so far have been based on the assumption that the code will be identical with those ueighboring States.-
