There was ;m unusual duliness throughout th entire market, Tlie depression which was fe in the ruling of prices tast week continued t sueh an extent that holders were unable to rea ize first prices after paying the necessary ex penses in bringing lots to market. Those that were in also assisted in keeping prices in a bad state, as none could be called choice, the most being very light and indifferent lots. Operators from the East, who buy extensively at tliis market, did not put in an appearance, and this fact also had its effect. Taken upon the whole, the market was a disastrous one to small operators, some of which sent lots on hand to pastures as a retnevatory course. There were no real choice lots, suih as brought $4 50 last week, the best selling at $4 and $3 50 and some lots iveraging trom 800 to 900 lbs, at Í2 60. HOOS. The lots in this week were not so choice. The market was also closer and in a measure unremuuerative to country operators. Lots that could be classiffed fair brought $4 40 and averaged 200 to 400 lbs. Packers were not so aniious as on the previous market to buy up Iot9, many expressing an absolute mdiffereuce. The shipments east from Chicago indicate a falling off. SHEEP. The uniform quality of lots that were in the market on previous weeks had no counterpart in those of yesterday and to-day. The prices ruled closer also, the highest price paid being #4 12 for Iota averaging 80 to 90 lbs. Many lots were aold by the head at a loss to the holder. No lots averaged more than 90 lbs. Kino's Cattle Yards, l Dktroit, Monday evening, Sept, 1. CATTLE. lteceipts were moderately active, but the market oponed vevy slow and up to a late hour but few had been aold by the hundred pouuds. The range of prices tor the same quality of last week is but little changed, though sellen of choice butchers' steei's claimed they were unable to realize prices then named.
