New York, Oct. 18. - The Times, in its story to-day of the Polaris investigation". says : Mr. Morton denies absolutely that he ever had any suspieion of foul play in the death of Capt. Hall, or that he ever, to the best of his knowledge and belief, told any one he had, or gave any one reason to suppose he had. Wheu Dr. Hall returned froui the sledge expedition Dr. Bessels was employed in the observatory, about two hundred yards f rom the Polaris. As he sw Dr. Hall and party approaeh he ran down and greeled and shook hands with them, and then retnrned iramediately to his work at the observotory. Dr. Hall's. party entered the vessel, and all partook of some coffee, whioh all the crew of the vessel had previously drank. The coffee was prepared by the cook, and was given to the party either by him or Joe and Hannah. The party was unaffected by the coffee, except Dr. Hall, who was immediately attacked with vomiting. After vomiting he feil into a state of insensibility. It was about half an hour after the return of the party when Dr. Bessels was summoned from the observatory and found Dr. Hall already in a coinatose condition. When Dr. Hall revived from the stute of insensibility it was found that his left side was paralyzed, considered by medical men in itself an absolute refutation of the charges of poisoning. The suspieion that Dr. Bessels caused the death of Dr. Hall is baseless, as it undoubtedly is feit by his friends, niany of whora were abo warmly attached to Dr. Hall, to be most harsh and cruel. The syraptoms and medical treatment of Dr. Hall have been submitted to the most eminent medical men of the country, and by them death has been unhesitatingly pronounced to have been due to natural cause, and the treatment employed by Dr. Bessels is indorsed as exactly that which was required, and the only treatraent proper under the circunlstauces.
