The year ending witñ tnis issue 01 tne Oazette is of more than ordinary interest to the practical observer of Lake Superior's advancement. In looking over the events that have transpired up here during the past 12 months, we find the two great industries of this región- copper aud iron mining - stand upon a flrmer basis to-day than they ever did before. Although the copper mines have suffered from the late fiuancial disturbances, yet the burden heaped upon them bas not been so onerous as other great branches of business throughout the United States have had to bear. The yield of minera) during the last season - 18,000 tons and - was greatly in excess of any previous year, while the chances for doing better than this in 1874 are exceedingly good.
