During the recent cauip hunt at St. James Island, by soine of our citizens, an incident occurred, whichis, perhaps, without a parallel in the annals of bunting.and deserves to be recorded. A large buck, closely pursued by that fatnous staghound, Old Ring, belonging to Mr. Hopkins, took water, and headed right out to sea ; the dog, without any hesitation, boldly followed him on bis voyage over the " dark and treauherous waves." They were watched with intense interest by the hunters until each was a mere speek upon the surface of the sea, and until they were finally and totally lost to view. After Bome time, when it was supposed that both dog and deer hnd fuund u watery, and, perhaps a bloody grave, in morul combat, or been devourt-d by sharks, a suia,ll object was discoverod, whioh proved to be Üld Itiiig returning from his long swim, much exhuusted, bui reachiug the shore in Bafety.
