The men discovered that thev wero adrift soon after the ice parted, and attrated the attention of others by their cries. ïho cake on which they were was fixe or six acres in area, and drifted off to ■ ward the Charity Islands at quite a rapid rate. The men on the main ice took horses and went to the shore some five or six miles distant, got a boat, and drew it out upon tho ice and launched it. By the time this had been done the drifting ice cake was, Mr. Causeley thinks, somo Jömilesaway. Though the weather yesterday was warm and the rain waa fast weakenin the ice, the cake on which tho men went out was sufliciently strong to remain whole for some time. At the timo our informant left, the boat had not returned, and it was expected to be in by night. The men wero Prenchmen, whose names were not remembered.
