An oíd divine wished to communicato the idea of faith to hia child. Hia little daughter happened at that time to be playing with a trinket which she very highly prized. He said to her, " My daughter, have you faith in me 'i Do you believe in me as one who loves you and desires only to do you good 't" With that explanation his daughter was able to say, " I do." " Throw that trinket into the flre." Looking up to see whether an exproasion of earnestness waa upon the countenance of tho fathor, and seeing there that expression, ahe summoned up all her courage, though the tears would come into her eyes, and threw the trinket into the fire. A few daya after, when the flrst deep impression of this instruction had paased away, he brought her a box of trinkets containing ono like that which she had loat, and many others, and as he preaented them to her, he said : " My daughter, I asked you a few daya since if you had faith in me, and you replied that you had, and ahowed it by your worka. Here is your reward. Now, when you havo ruason to believe that God requires of you any action, perform it as faithf ully as you obeyed me, and you shall receiveyour reward."
