S Vr.AH Snt - In the State Capítol now jeing built at Lansing there is a large room connectod with tho offices of tho „luartermastor-General's, and set apart for a military museum, to be open to all without rcstiiction or oxpense, in whioh will be arranged for exhibition and preservatioD of tho old regimental rlags carried in the late war by Michigan regiments, togother with suuh memeiitoes and relies of tho war as can bo gathered there, including the captured flags and other trophies. For the purpose of raaking the collection as complete as possible, all officers and soldiers possessed of atiy trophy, relie, curiosity or memento, or any article which is connected in any manner with the late war, or of any march, skirmish, battlo or engagement, or of the personal or military history of Michigan in the late war, are earnestly requested to eonlribute the same to tho ÍState Museum, where they will be more safo and botter preserved than tbey can be in the possession of individuals, and, at the same timo afford a source of pleasure and information to many. Thoy will be properly numbered, catalogued, and arranged in cases, for the inspection of all our citizens of the present and future generations, and will form a most interesting and valuable part in in the history of Michigan in the great struggle for national existence. Articles from Michigan soldiers (or their friends), who took part in the Mexican war, or war of 1812, and from officers and sailors in tho navy, also from tho State militia, and any other article of memento connectod with the military history of Michigan, are desired for preservation in the museum, whcre they will be properly classitied and arranged. Please givo with any article you may send, full name, rank and regiment, with a description and full history of such artiele, upon receipt of which each article will be numbered, and the nnmber, name of contributor and history in full will be entered in a record prepared for that purpose. With the acknowledgment receipt I will return a certifícate numbered corresponding with the cataloguo numberof the article, and giving the namo and rank of donor, and description of article. In addition to tho above I desire to get, so far as possible, a card pbotograph of every officer, soldier and sailor who went into the army or navy from Michigan, to bo arranged by regiments in large albums made expressly therefor, for exhibition in the museum. This collection will be a most interesting feature, and it is desirable to have it as fnll and complete as it can be made. Please indorse on the back of each photograph the name, rank and regiment in full. Would prefer to have thein in uniform when possible. In order to get all and every interesting article of the character named, for the purposo stated, I earnestly request the relatives and friends of deceased or absent comrades to make contributions in their names, and I ask of those who have survived the storrns of battle to co-operate with me by taking an activo interest in making our State Military Museum one of the finest and complete in existence, and in which every Michigan soldier and sailor will take pride, as having a personal interest for himself and friends in tho contributions of his own, which can bo seen there. It is desirable t,o have the delivery of all articles commence at once, in order that they may be classified and catalogued, to bo placed permanently in the museum, as soon as tho building is completed. Packages can be sent to my address by express at tho expense of this department, or small packages and photographs by mail, and the receipt thereof will be promptly acknowledged, Yery respectfully, Quartermaster-Oreneral.
