A correspondent of the Englüh Mechanic writes : " Having a great deal to do with the seasoning of the harder and botter kinds of wood, I find that they are all liable to crack at the ends. I generally give them threo or four coats of gluo ou the ends only, which I find is a sure preventive, till the wood is well dry, and tlien cut on tho quarter." TlIINNING OUT OllNAMENTALS. - Trees n ornamental grouuds are often planted oo thick when young, with the intontion of thinning. This must bo done in time, or they will crowd and spoil oach other. Winter is a good time to do it. If not arge, tho trees may sometimes be moved o othor places, provided a ball or cako of earth large enough to hold them stiffly against tho wind is taken with the roots. A warm bran-mash is a good thing to ;ivo a horsa when lio is brought home lot and exhausted from a long joumey. Hauket him at once, and rub his ears and egs, and rub his belly and flanks and such ther parts of the body as can bo got at without wholly removing the blanket. If 'our man thinks this too much troublo ad will not do the work willingly, dislarge him. Bettor part with a man ïan lose a good horse.
