Few people have any idea of theextent of forest land in Goruiany, and imagine ihat ot' the Black Forest little is left except the tradition. On the contrary, in Eianover alone thoro are 900,000 acres of wood under State managoment, whilo nearly a í'ourth part of the area of Prusaia is in forest, although half of that is in private lands. As is well known, the foreat administration in particular districts las long been famous, especially in Thurngia and the Hartz mountains. In Sforth Gerinany generally the reeponsiDÜitiea are allotted in districts among a carefully organized body of officors, presided over by a Porest Director. Tho appointments are fairly reniunerated, and :hey aro so eagerly sought after that caudidates will remain on probation f'or years at their own cost, or with moderate and irecarious pay, in the hope of sccuring a slace in tho corps at last. At first-class weddings in Egyt, it is ;he correct thlng to fling gold coin upon the heada of the visitors. In this coun;ry, rhe visitor has only to look abont iim awhile at a wedding, to perceive that ie is not in Egypt.
