Charles K Barnes, city editor of tb Journal, has the nucleus for one of t best private museums iu the State. 1 coins alone thore are nearly one tbousand pieces, and in this departnient he bas two sets of American copper coius, wbici are complete. The geological cabinet, when properly classified and labeled, wiii be very full and complete. Most of tb specimens in this department were gsth. ered in a tour through the Northwest few years ago. Another feature of the collection is a cabinet of relies of the prehistorie race or inound builders. Au enthusiast in antiquarian researches, Mr, Barnes has devoted much thought ara time upon these interesting reniains cf an extinct race, and has collected a larsi number of specimens of the skill of that almost forgotton people. Bearing upoo this subject are a number of rare worfa which have been collected at much eipense and cannot be dublicated in any library in this vioinity. There are also in the collection of booka, costly worti on geology, numismática, etc., worls which are to found generally in only the largest libraries. All the work of collecting these treasures of nature and art bl been accomplished modestly and quietiy in the intervals of hard work as a printer and journalist, and shows what may be done by inaking the right use of leisure time.
