A story is tola oí a daughter of u promnent porson now in the lecture field, which is peculiarly suggestive of unconscious wisdom. A gentleman was invited o the lecturer's house to tea. Iinmediately on being seated at the table the litio girl astonished tho f'amily circle by he abrupt question : " Where is your wife ?" Now the gentleman having boon rocenty 6eparated from the partner of his Ufe, was taken so completely by surprise that ie stammered t'orth tho truth, " I don't tnow." " Don't know," replied the enfant terri)le, " why don't you know ?'' Finding that the cnild persistod in her nterrogatories, despite the mild reproof of her parents, he concluded to make a clean breast of the matter and have it over at once. So he said with a calmness which was he result of a volley of inward expleives: " Well, we don't livo together. We ;hink, as we can't agree, we had better not." He stifled a groan as the child began again, and darted an exasperated look at ïer parents. But the littlo torment would not be ;uieted till she exclaimed : " Can't agree ! ïhen why don't you ight it out, as pa and ma do 't" " Vengeance is mine," laughingly reorted the visitor, alter pa and ma exhanged looks of holy horror, followedby n inevitable roar.
