-The first lo otnotive that ran upon arailroad on thia ontiment was ordered in England tor ie Delaware & Hudson Canal Compay, and was shipped frotn Liverpool .pril 8, 1829, ou board the paoket ship ohn Jay, which arrived in New York ktay 17, 1829. The locomotivo was sent p the river to Roundout, and was coneyed thenoe to Honesdale Pa., where it made its trial trip. This locomotive was n objeot of intense interest and curiosir during the entire route f'rom New York to Honesdale. The looomotive was built in Stourbridge, England, was naraed the Stourbridge Lion, and the boiler íb dow in use in üarbondale, Fenn.
