There was on exhibition at the New EngUnd Fair, at Narraganset Park, a model of a very simple elaatio guard for koeping horses trom gnawing toe bark from road-side tree3. It is a simple paling of slat to surround the truuk ; but instead of being nailed to the tree or set on the gronud to rot, it was suspended by el&stio springs whioh would give as the body of the tiee eularges. We con sider it well worthy tbe cousideration of ownere of road-side shade trees. It is utterly absurd to spend time and money in planting breei along our streets, wlien tlie first horse that comes along is allowed to stop and leisurely make a dinner from the bark, while the owner is, perlinos thoughtlessly smoking a cigar at a neighboiing saloon. - iV.
