Mr. Editor : - The following copy of a telegram, pickod up in the Btreet in the oity of Hillsdale, discloses the fact that the political canvass iu the Second Congressional District, so far asthe Hon. Henry Waldron, the present metuber of Congress and Bepublican candidato for reelection is concerned.is carried on through the agency of " niiddle-men,"- agenta general and sub, of the Hon. tuember : [COPY.] Anu Akbor, M. 17, 1874. Reed. at m.5't, a. m. To H. Waldron :- H. C. Waldron will b thore today. Confine him to towus of Salem and Noithüold. Close woik is what is needed. Yon do uot need any General ageut in this eounty. R. A. BE AL. It is a grave question just now, as to how the farmers of this district, espocially those belonging to the Grange, will like this agency system, - particularly the "close-workers." Will they ignore the doctrine and principies of their organization, and negotiate for and receive the patont wares and " govercment prize chromos" these sample-men are carpet-bagging around 'i Samples of what very desirable article is it ? that the special agent is to get at Hillsdale, and which General Agont Beal, of Aun Arbor, thinks so vory muoh needed by the electors of the townships of Saletn and Northfield, and the " close work" to be done, and how done, are questions for the ourious to speculate upon, and the interested to solve. Is the ' olose work" alluded to, work that will bear inspection, and stand the light of day or the withering gaze of popular intelligenoe 'i How appropriate then, at this junoture, is the text of the Eev. Zaohariah to the electors of the Seoond Congressioual District, and especially to the farmers of the townships of Salem and Northfleld in Washtenaw county. "By their works, shall ye know them."
