The ducks were left motherless five or six weeks ago, and after a day or two a wild hen quail appeared in he yard and immediately took oharge of he dueklings. The quail attends them n the most careful manner, scratching 'or them, calling for them when food is tound, and filis a step-mother'a place, seemingly, to the perfect satisfaotion of íer numerous family. At night the ducks go to bed on the ground, and the 8elf-constituted mother roosts in a tree near by. When Mr. Harmon approaches ,he house, the ducka, headed by their wild mother, run to meet him, in order ;o obtain their regular food. It is a pleasng and intereating circumstanoe, and lunters are requested to be careful when around Mr. Harmon's place, and not hoot the little mother.
