Bacheldeb's Hall, ) Ypsilanti, Dec. 7, 1874. $ This being the day designated tor the regular meeting of the society, and the membors having assembled at the hall, they were called to order by Mr. John Geddos, Vice President for the town of Aun Árbor. The minutes of the meeting of Oct, 7tl, were read and approvud. Eev. Samuel Clements then read a paper on the early liistory of the township of Lima. On motion, the thanks of the society were voted to Rev. Samuel Clemeuts for his very interesting history. On motion of Dr. N. Webb, Eev. Samuel Clements was made au honorory member of the society. On motion, the society adjourned to meet again at hali-past one o'clock, p. M. AFTEBNOON SESSION, The society met pursuant to adjournment, and was called to order by the chairman. Mr. L. Davis, for Messrs. D. Depue and C. F. Ahnendinger, presented to the society a block out from one of the remaining logs of the flrst school house built in the county. This school house was built in 1825, and was situated iu the township of Pittsfield, on the south Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti road, a few rods east of Mallet's Creek, and nearly opposite the house ot the late Samuel D. McDowell. Mr. Davls also prosented a block aud a gavel cut from the same logs, to the State Normal School, also a cañe to the Rov. John D. Pierce, who was the ftrst Superintendent of Public Instruction in this State. Dr. E. D. Lay offered the following preamble and rosolutions : Whereas, It has pleased an all wise Providence to remove by death on the 9th day of Sept , 1874, Abraham B. Covert, a beloved Pioneer brother ; aiso, his companion, Jane Covert, on the 26th day of Nov., 1874. Mr. and Mis. Covert removed to the township of Ypsilanti, in the spring of 1834, andsettled upon the farm whera they lived, respected and beloved by all who knew them, until death removed them as we trust, to enjoy a heavenly home. - Resolved, That we, the members of the Pioneer Society of Washtenaw county, exteud to the relatives of the deceased ourheartfelt sympathy in this their bereavement. Resolved, That these resolntions be spread upon the journal of the society, and that the several papers published in the county be requested to publish the same. The preamble and resolutions were then adopted. Mr. Jeremiah D. Williams then read a paper on the history of the township of Webster, whicli is to be coutinued. On motion of Mr. Jones, the thanks of the society were voted to Mr. Williams for his able and interesting communication. Dr. Gray, of Dexter, being called upon, made a few remarks upon the early history of that village. Mr. Chas. Fleming, of Ypsilanti city, made a short address full of interest. On motion of L. Davis, the society adjourned to meet in the village of Dexter, on the first Monday of February next.
