Entirely distinct from these are the Masóme Templara. The degree of Knight of the Temple was invented in Franee about a eentury ago, and spread somewfaflt later to England. It was, in the courso of Urne, brought to this country, butwas so modilii'd liy one Croas, a person wlio lived by peddling Masonic degïeoB and Masonic documents, aa to be a very differeat affair Som the original Templar degree. In l'uet, tho Hnglish Masouic Kaighte ciinüot recoguize an American Knight Templar by any community of secrets and nigus, althongh the graud bodies in both countries re in umicable relations with one another. The English Knights certainly have the advantage of their American bretkren in the mattir of uniform, híiici1 the former wear the white cloaks of the aiu'icnt Knights, while Üie Americana dress themselves in a uniform which is a mixture of those of a naval captain and a chiiplain in the arniy.
