Barnum is one oí those showmeu who beieve iu not doi'ng exactly the same thing in exctly the same way twice, aud he has conse_ uently added a great number of novel feaures to the entertainment which he produces bifl Müison, in additiou to the attractions wlnch secured him so much applause and inancial success last year. The performnces at the Hippodrome last evening commenced with a Fete at Pekin, representing a eception oí the Emperor ot China. This was very gorgeous affair, an immense number of erformers, maguificently ciad, representing ae dilFerent phases of Chinese military and ivil lite. This was tollowed by the Japanese, with their curious feats of acrobatism ; races, inglixh, Roman, etc, and a buffalo huntMadame D'Atalie, who is uot altogether inapropriately called the "feinale Samson," exited great applause by her cannon feat, as did lso the gymnasts who followed her. One ol he most interesting features of the exhibition was an Euglish and American jockey race, alliough the race between the monkeys nomited on ponies and that between the nderess horses were most entertaining. The perormance concluded with a speetacular, pantomimic display illustrative of the story of Blue ïoard, iu which the entire troupe appeared. 'his feature was exceedingly well managed, nd was very beautiful. This very imperfect eview of an elabórate programme will serve o give our readers some idea of the magnitude f the great show, and of the extent of the atractions whiéh Barnum offers for a very small jrice of admission. - I'iiladelpiia Tuleiraph, April 13, 1875. The Eclectic for July is rather lighter than usual, probably in deferenee to the tastes of ummer readers. A very gossipy and enteraining paper on Macready's Eemirnecences eads off the number, and one of the pleasantest tories that has appeared in a long time is 'he Marriage of Moira Fergus, by Williani Slack. Other highly interesting papers are : Sea Studies, by James Anthony Froude; The lew Army of France ; The Arctic Explorer; 'he Art of Furuishiug ; Sir Arthur Helps ; Success oí the Transit Expeditions; Germán lome Life, by a Lady ; Animal Liíe in Mada;ascar ; Thomas Love Peacock ; Lost Know!dge ; Girton College lor Women ; and severa! foems. The embellishment in thia number ia a fine portrait of President D. CGilman, of the Johns Hopkins University, which is accompanied by a brief sketch of hls [fa. Published by E. E.
