A special meeting of the Council was held Monday eveuing. Koll called, absent Aid. Cate, Herrón and Smith. Minutes of last meetiug read and approved. PETITI0N8. Ot H. Cornwell, and others, for sidewalk on east side ot Ingalls street, betweeh North st. and North Uuiveraity Avenue. To sidewalk comtmttee. Of W. Tremaine, and others, for sidewalk on north side of Lawrence street, between Thayer and Ingalls sts. To same oommittee. Of H. C. Waldrou, and others, tor street lamp on west side of Elizabeth street, between North and Fuller streets. On raotion of Aid. Rogers, the prayer of the petitioners was granted, and the lamp was ordered erected under the supervisión of General Fund committee. COMMUNICATIONS. To the Honorable Mayor, Recorder and Alderinen of the ('ity of Ann Arbo-r : Gentlemen - I have tried the Marshalship of the city of Aun Arbor for over six months, and have become satisñed that I am not adapted to that position, and I hereby tender ïny resiguation as auch to take effect upon the appointment of some one to take my place. Respectfully yours, Edw. Stii.ino. Oct. 18th, 1875. On motion the resiguation was aceepted. MISCELLANEOUS. Aid. Rogers offered the following : Resolved, That subdivisión 6 of Rule l,relative to policemen, and coutained in the rules and rogulatious for the government of the police forcé, be amended so as to provide that policeraen shall not be over 66 years of age. On motion of Aid. King, the Council went into au executive session for 20 minntes ; after the expiration of wliich time the Council resumed business in open session. On motion of Aid. Ferdou, the resoiution ered by AM. Itogers was laid on the table unil the next regular meeting. A. H. Herrón tendered his resignation as Alierman of tlie Fiith ward. Accepted. Council proceeded to the election of a City Vlarshal, in place of E. Stiling, resigned. A. 3. Herrón waa elected upon the second ballot, l'he vote stood, Herrou, 8 ; J. (i. Johnson, 2. Marshal Herrón having taken the oath of office, made the following appointments for deputy-marshals : J. (. Johnson and John W. Maroney. Coufirmed. Aid. King offered the following rosolution, which was adopted : Resolved, That the Marshal of this city be and is hereby appointed chief of iiolice, with a compensation of 12. 25 per day as full compensation for services rendered as chief of pólice ; aud that J. G. Johnsou and J. W. Maroney be and are hereby appointed policemen of the city, with a compeusalion each of 2 per day as full coinpensation {or all services reudered as policemen and deputy marshals. By Aid. King : That a sidewalk, flve feet in width, be ordered constructed on west side of Twelrth street, between Hill street and South University Avenue, and that the samo lm built as Boon as practicable. Adopted. Adjoumed.
