The proprietors of Strong'a hotel art Monroe are putting in maohinery to manufacture their own gas. T. . The route proposed is about 60 miles, and the cost of building and equipping would be about $428,300. Willett Bros.' planing mili and sash, door, and blind faotory, at Muir, was destroyed by fire on the evening of the 8th iust. Loss about $9,000. All insurance had expired three days before and had not been renewed. Asa W. Kennedy, a stock driver livirfg near Adrián, was vraylaid, assaulted, badly beaten, and robbed of $4,600, while going home from Adrián on the evening of the 8th, having arrived from Buffalo on a late train. Theodore Hines, George Baxter, C. C. Gordon, and Nelaen Fenton have been arrested on the charge of robbing the drover Kennedy near Adrián. The first two live near Kennedy and the other two are related to Hines. The Muskegon News publishes statistics of the lumber cut by milis in that vicinity, which have just shut down. The footings show 25 milis with a capacity for the seasou of 382,600,000 feet. These men employ 1,218 men, and out during the past year 351,400,000 feet, 42,200,000 more than was cut in 1874. There are alao four shingle-mills which have manufactured during the last season 28,400,000 shingles. A gang of hog stealers has beeen discovered at Niles, and several members arrested. They board a train at the depot moving east, unlock a car as the train moved up a heavy grade, throw out several hogs, "juinp the train," and with cosfederates in waiting butcher the hogs and market thern next day. Two of the parties kept a meat market and supplied it with pork in this way. Six men have b6en held for trial. The Adrián Times estimates tffat 125,000 barrels of apples, 6,000 barrels of eider, 80,000 pounds of dried fruit, and 61,000 pounds of prepared apples hare been bought and shipped in Lenawee county this fall, for which the farmers must have received $250,000. A chunk of milk, "solidified by thn Hooke procesa, "and weighing about 100 pounds, and which "has been exposed to the action of the air for four yeara and three month8," was lately ahown at the rootna of the Society of Art in London, and the A gricultural Qazette of that city says: "lts quality was still so excellent that in a few minutes it waa resolved by churning into fresh butter."
