A strikng illustration how our peopl are robbed of their hard earnings, b; tho govomment, is found in the oom parison of the tirmy expenses in th United States and thoso of the Germán Empire. For our small army of 25,000 men the Secretary of War demanda $33,000 000 per -year. A soldier to be supportec in distant regions, as is mostly the cas in the United States, naturally cosí more than a soldier in Gerniany - bu allowing every possible expense, the de mands of the United States War De partment remain enormous, if ooinparec with those of Germany. The 800,000 men of the Germán Em pire, as perfect a body of troops in a. its branches as can be fouiid, cost dur ing last year $87,500,000. The propor tional expense of our Httle army, i comparod with that of Germany, seem ridiculous, and tho people and thoi represoutalives seem to bo blind to th frauds perpetrated in that departineni If the Gerinan army cost as much a ours, it would take ono thousand an fifty-six millions of dollars annually to support it, if we could support our army at tho cost of the Gormau army, it would requiro ouly $275,000 (two huudred and sevouty-five thousand dollars) per annum. Tho $33,000,000 demanded by the Secretary of War do includo other military requirenients twenty millions more are demanded for coast defenses, ordinance, ammunition, experimenta with torpodoes, etc., so that our military hydra gobbles fifty millions per year, oach man costa $2,-; 000 a year, $1.000 more than most of us have to support ourselves and families, we could support au army of thirtythree thousand Circuit Judges at a salary of fiftoen hundred a year. With Sfty States and Territorios it would cost each of thom ono million doljars annually to support an army of five hundred men. Vide. The Commissioner of Indian Affairs doos not apprehend any trouble at Eed 31oud Agency. On account of the ailuro ofsupplips Congress will bo asked or an appropriation to bridge over the me between this and the end of the isoal year. The Cominissioner thinks he will be able to issue rationa as usual
