camages, buggies, sleighs, furuiture, boxes, &c, and other painted surfaces, often show the most delicate artistic skill, and the question arises, how are such views and ornamenta plaoed there withoot great expense P The cheapest artieles are frequently covered with bits of landscape or floral decorations that cou'd not be painted by hand without increasjng the valuo of the articles, The secret is, these paintings are transferred to the articles adorned by a process called " Decalcomania." When the method was first discovered high prices were charged fox the transfer pictures, and :üso for teaching the art, so that few could aftord to purchase. Eecently, however, dealers have reduced the rates so that uow these pictures may be obtained at comparatively low cost. J. L. Patten & Go., 162 William Street, New York, are large dealers in these goods. For the small sum of teu oenta they will send complete instructions, with catalogue and ten specimen pictures, to any one who wishes to learn this beautiful art. The annual moeting and election of the Washtenaw Mutual Fire Insurance Company was held in Firemen's Hall, in this city, on Wednesday. The attendance was not large, but the contest for directors was spirited, resulting in a re-election of the old members of the board except Andrew Campbell. The board, therefore, now consists of Messrs. Allen Crittenden, H. M. Mowry, John J. Kobiaou, Newton Sheldon, and Peter Cook. The board has re-organized by electing Mr. Crittenden, President, and Mr. Sheldon, Secretary and Treasurer. . jyi New applications and polioies have been printed and active work has been commenced in taking up the old ones. So far it is found that few insured object to exchange, but in inany oases large reduetions ín the amownts insured are made. And that is in the line of safety. The Dundee Enterprise of the 8th inet, ays : "Messrs. Eeese and Wolcott were in this vil lago Wednesday evening, having walked over the road-bed f rom Anu Arbor. They stated that the grading, ties, etc, were in much better condition than they expected to iind them, and talked very hopefully of the prospect. They started, per Foot & Walker's line for Toledo on Thursday morning." Lieut' Coffman writes us from Toledo that " things look bright on my report." We have received from J. B. It is sent to applicants for lü cents which amount is allowed on the first order for seeds. See advertisemeut in another column. Oue Dioceses. - The monthly paper of the Episcopal Church in the two Dioseses of this State has just been greatly enlarged ; and iu addition to being the official organ, it is now also a valuable family religious paper, full of State and general church news, stories, clioice selectious, etc. No Episcopal family should be without it. The subscription price has been increased to one dollar per year, but it is stilj one of the cheapest papers publiahed. Liberal premiums are offered to clubs. Address Rev. J. Ï.
