-All the township 8 ex:ept Sylvau have, by their treasurera, made return of the State and County tazes collected, paying over in full to the County Treasurer the sums charged againat them. Considering the stringency ol the times the collections hare been made exceedingly close, with an exception or two. The " practical joke " which some of the boys played upon that clever fellow, Joe Jacobs, a few wesks ago, has borne bitter fruit to a couple of sophomores. Iu the last Aeous we advertised a gold watch as " lost or stolen." The same day the loser, a student named Davis, a sophomore we believe, received a letter demanding the deposit of $10 in a sealed envelope, with a barber on Huron street, who, if no questions were asked, would give him the watch. Davis consulted Dsputy Sheriff Mclntyre, and by his advice a marked $10 bill was placed aa directed and the shop watched during Saturday without result. But hearing on Sunday that the barber had the watoh, Sheriff Fleming proceeded to interview him and learned that he procured it from two classmates of Davis (alao members of the same secret society), in exchange for the Ï10. But the joke not being relished, a warrant was procured and the " jokers " arrested on Monday. The boys compromised by paying the costa of two suits, about $15, and the contemplated supper, with Davis as an invited guest, didn't come off.
