"That," saidhis visitor, "would be till ;he lst of August, 1887?" "Procisely, madame." "And how much could I inurehis life for 1" " Oh, for any amount, jay for $50,000," ho answered, toking up i blank f orín of applioation. "Well," said the young woman, " I think, then, that I'll marry him. " ' ' Insure him, you mean?" replied the agent. "No, marry him;youin6UMhim. ïousee,"sheadded, with a burat of oonfldenoe, "I love Herbert, and Mr. Dawkins is old enough to be my grandfather. But Herbert is poor, and I just worship the corner lots that Mr. Dawkins builds on. And Herbert is very patiënt, and says that if I will only fix a day, no matter how long he may have to wait, he will be happy. Now, you say Mr. Dawkins will die by the lst of August, 1887, and as it wouldn't be decent to marry again till I've been a year in mourning, I'll arrange to marry Herbert on the 2d of August, 1888."- Chicago Tribune.
