Thore is a good deal of difference iu tho proyinoes and principalities wliicli aro battling more or less with Turkey at this time. Servia is the largest and more poworful State, with the most ppirited and progressivo people, and has reached tho highest stage of material and moral dovolopment. Montenegro is tho ether independent power iu allianoe with Servia, a small State with a mountainous country and no rich meadow lands from whieh to accumulate wealth ; her isolation has givea her 'people a singular mixture Of austere virtues, barbarie ignorance and warlike ferocity. Between these two lies Bosnia, a province of Tnrkey, a part of whioh is Herzegovina. Bosnia contains aboxit 600,000 male population (the women are not counted iu the Turkish census), very evenly divided between Turks and Ohristians, the former repre..mting converts from the old nobility, the latter the descendants of the ancient serfs. Next to Servia, on the Danube, lies Bulgaria, another province of somewhat different race and charaoter, although Ohristians. Ali of these people belonged to tho old Servían empire, which was overthrown in the fourteenth and flfteenth centuries, but in Bulgaria the nobility were exterminated, leaviug the serfs, who havo nover attaincd the political spirit of tho provinces nearer Christendom, althoxTgh they have clung to their religión. They havo seccded frora tho Greek Church, and oonstitute a Christian communion of their own. They are thoroughly under the Turkish thumb, and are not counted good fighting stock. - Springfield {Mass.) Bepublican.
