Sucli incidents as tho foilowing are still common m coach traveling in California : ' ' The coach contained eight men and ioiir women, all unarnied. Both of tho men wore white cloths nnder their hats, one end being thrown up over the front of tho hat and the other, with eye-holes, covering the face. One man,. held u doublé -barreled j shot gun, aimed at the driver, and tne other at the body of the coach whore tho passengers mostly were. After a short parley two boxes of treasure v,ere thrown out, and the driver wis compelled to drive on, tho shot gun covering him until ho was hidden by a turn in the road."
