Mr. C'lcrk of the Weather, greeting : 8r, we houor your office and yon ; But we citizons have jiist held a meeting, Without any fuss or ado. No reporter was adniitted nor scribe ; No, sir, we excluded the presa j That quill-driving. ink-bottle tribe Of our nieeting dared uot hazard a guess. Well, sir, yon must be aware That ainendmcnts are now all the Btylc ; The constitntion will soon malte you stare, To say nothing of raising your bile. The lftwa made a century ago (You remember you were in ornee then) As applied to those times are " no go '- "We are now rather different men. But, sir, to como to the object poiht, Permit uh to say, the weather, as we see, The past seaon ia quite out of joint, To which with you we do not quito agren. This continuous büow - " beautif ui anow "- WfW bo plentiful as to overrxin our shoes, And place us in a position to scold and blow, Which, in the end, gives us the " blues." You are silent - no word of dissent. 'Tls well, sir ; we know what that means, I'or silence is, everywhere, consent. Now we know which eide your mind leans. No matter ; the charge could uot be refuted, ror our minds are made np on that score; So tho citizcTts have me dfiputeá To say, we need you no more. No, sir, you've an uncertiiiii temper ; To put it mildly, and say but the least, We might say, itTyrannv sic semper ," But we ehoose not the part of a beat. You sneer at my Lutin ? I changed it. Chango is the order of the day - Eiootions, laws, rapid transit Are bearing the old tides away. So, sir, we respectfiüly beg you'll step down And out - plain English, I hope you'll perceivc' We wish to pay no more heed to your frown, And beg you gracefully to leave. You must be quite a respectable age - Pre-historic your birthday, I'm sure ; Rest will snit such a venerable sage - 'Tis wonderful how long you enduro. This the citizens wishcd me to say, With "they wih a new man in your place," And " your weather would booü turn them pray, If kept up at this hoastly pace.' So, Mr. Clerk of the Weather, 'twere Well If yon givo this your speedy atteution. I have the honor, tñr, to bid you farewell; I have no more jut at prewont to mention.
