A Boy Miner

In the towu of Auburn, Ore., gold diggings liave been found under very peculiar cirmimstances. A boy had been fitted out by his fatlier with the implements of mining, and set to work near the roadsiile, merely for amusement and to give the youngster something to keep him out of 'misfihief. The ground was etaked out formally in raming style, and some waste water was turned into sluices' so as to wash the dirt. The boy worked for a few days faithfully, and, to everybody's surprise, at last panned out a smail quantity of gold dust. Laborera wpre then employed, and the work was deepened and extended, gold continuing to be found, at last accounts, in prontable quantities. The tax valuation of North Carolina has increased from $120,916,219 in 1870 to $148,5(54,557 in 1877.
