The editur of the Western Spirit, published at Paola, Kansas, haviug indulged in the luxury of a libel suit, thus sketches and compliments his attorne}', whom many of our readers will recognize as the son of our old fellow citizen, Hon. James Kingsley : " George Kingsley, Esq., As counsel for the defendant in the Rice-Perry libel suifc disulayecl such a degree of abüity, such fertility of resources, and such athorough knowledge oí law as would reflect credit upon the oldest and most experienced practitioners that our State affords. He was opposed by County Attorney Brayman and Linu couuty's eminent attorney, Col. J. D Suoddy, both of whom availed themselvos of cvery favoring cirsumstance and legal technicality, buncombe and legitímate, that could be devised to prevent the introduction of pertinent testimony. But in every instauce Kingsley met his opponeuts with consummate skill and energv, never becoming confused or being caught off his guard. He had mastered the case completely, havingforeïeen all the fine chstinctions and mee legal queshons that could be brought against him. He was a safo aml faithful guardián of his client's mterests, the case being managed thr jughout witli ] are and distinguished shrffwduess and abihty. Ho ia a natural, graoéful and uioyt impressive orator, and he was heani by au immense and appreciative audience. The addrese occupied uearly two hours in delivery, and was, m all respects, a masterly effort. lts hterary beauties wore greatly admired, and its analytical and logical reasoniugs carried convittion to all his Hsteners. Wit and eloquence, sarcasm and calm reason, successively elicited approving siniies and nods trom tho bar, jury and motley audience. It was oue of tiiose happy efforts whieh make men famous. " Tho talented young orator was congratulated on all sides at the successful issue of this celebrated and important cause, and he received tho . shower of encomiums with his chariicteristic modesty."
