Mr. Swathel, of the flrm of Swathel, Ailes & Kyer, called upon U8 a few days ago to give U8 a "little light" conoeruing their importatioa of wheat from Southern Illinois. Te come to the point iu the fewest possible words, the situation and explaiiation is this: they can get nothing but Clawson wheat in this market with which to stock their milis, and they caunot tínd sale iu the easteru markets, while iu the easteru marketa they must seil, for flour made from Clawson wheat. This they claim to be their sad experience as well as the experience of other millers in this State. They have bought and shipped Clawsou wheat, letting eiisteru milis do the grinding, or lettiug the gram go lorward to Europe, but flour it they caunot. Mr. S. also expresses a fear thatthe Ulawson wheat now goiug abroad may injure the future sale of Americuu wheat in the Europetin markets, jiist as the sale of flour from grown whet a fow years ago in France prevented the sale of American flour in the Frenen markets from that day to this. If such shall prove to be the case the Michigan farmer will iu the long run lose more than will offset the extra yield from the Clawaon, We state the positiou as Mr. Swathel stated it to us, and leave our farmer frieudn to discuss it for themselves.
