During a recent visit to Mr. Humann, ín Ostlieim, I luid au opportunity of bccoming acquainted with u very successful method of spccdily getting rid of ants whicfe are so troublesome in tbc apiary. Ono takes small lottlos, filis them half full of sirup or sweetened water, and jiuts them in the places where the ants have thcir passage-ways, in suoh a mannor as the necks of the bottles lean ngainst a wall or board, in order thut thfi ants may easily fall into the trap and drown. By means of camphor, ants can bc driven from rooms where honoy is stored. In gardens, lime-dust operates very destnictivcly upon them. Their hills, aftcr being scatched open, are sprinklcd with lime dnst, and then hot water is poured on them. To render jars of honey or preserved fruit inaccessible to these insects, j)lace the jars in chests whose bottoms have Been revioualy covercd with ashes or pulverized chalk. - ElgOBSsivche Bienenzeuchter.
