The Legislatura niet in regular biennial session at the new Capítol in Lansing, on Wednesday, January 1. Nothing was done in either house except to effect nn organization. SENATE. The Senate was called to order by Lieut. Qov. Se83ions and the roll called by James H. Stone, Sooretary of the last Senate. The following officers were elected by a nearly unanimous vote, the minority making no nominations. Secretary - Kdwin S. Hoskins. Assistant Secretary- Chas. C. Hopkins. Engrossing and Earolling Clork - Denison E. Groosbeck. Sergeant-at-Arms - Chas. H. Perkins. Assistant Sergeant-at-Artns - John S. Brubaker. Second Assistant Sargeant-at-Arins - George Powler. Assistant Engrossing and Enrolling Clerk- O. F. Moore. The Senate then took a recesa until 2:30 o'clock. At the afteruoon session Senator Shepard introducod a resolution, which wan adopted, adding a committee on the li quor traftio to the standing coinmittees of the Senate. The customary resolutions relating to stationery, the rules and joint rules, hour of meeting, appoiutuient of messenger boys, etc, wore adopted, and a resolution for the appointment of a postmaster waa tablod. The Senate adjourned till 10 a. m. IIOUSB. At 12 o'clock Daniel L. Crossman, Clerk of the last House, called that body to order and called the roll. An ode composed for the occasion by Rev. George Duflield, was sung by a voluntary choir, and the Scriptures read and prayer offered by the same gentleman. The members were sworn in and a recess takon, after which the following officers were elected : Speaker, John T. Rich, of Ionia. Clerk, Daniel L Crossman, of Ingham. Sergeant at-Arnis, William K, Childs, of Washtenaw. Engrossing and Enrolling Ulork, Valorus W. Bruue, of Montcalm. The Democratie vote, 17, waa giveu to Hon. J. J. Robison, of thia county, for Speaker. The usual preliminary resolutions were adopted aud assistants ordered. The proceedings in in&uguration of the new Capítol were the attractive feature of the day.
