Borax for Uoldb. - A writer in the Medical Record cites a number of cases in whioh borax is proved a most effectnal remedy in certnin forms of colds. He states that in siidden hoarseness, or loss of voice in public speakers or Bingers from colds, relief for an hour or so, as by magie, may be cften obtained by slowly dissolving, partially tavajlowing, a lump of borax the sizo of a garden pea, pr.about three or four grains, held in the mouth for ton minutes before speaking or singing. This produces a profuse secretion of saliva, or " watering " of the mouth and throat - probably restoring the voice or tone to the dried vocal cords, just as wetting brings back the missing notes to a flute when it is too dry. Cure for Coens. - The latest remody for the euro of corns comes to us from a friend livincr in KinesvillR. Oliin who vouchcs for the curo with grave as surance, having known of its efficaey in many stubborn cases. He" says : " Take a well-ripened leinon, roll anti squeeze nntil the jnices are well liquified, then open the lemon and squeeze the juice into a glass vial. Add to the juice three or six pearl buttons, according to size, such as is used oa linen or oambric underwear. In a few days it will be found the lemon juice has eaten up or dissolved the buttons, so they can be mashed between the thmnb and finger. Shake the mixture wel!, then apply it to the corn ; a few applieations will conquer tffe most stubborn settler and give permanent relief." This is a remedy easily prepared and contains no poisonous substance ; so all who desire can use it without fear of evil consequenecs. Nine times out of ten the causéis in thefact that the stomaeh was not able to digest the food last introduced into it, either from its having been unsuitable or excessive in quantity. A diet of bread and butter, with ripe fraits or berries, with moderato, continuous exercise in the open air, snfiicient to keep op a gentío perspiration, woüíd cure almost every dltee in a short time. Two teaspoonfiiïs of powdered charcoal in half a glasa of water, and drunk, generally gives instant relief. We are inclined to think that the ; above remedies may do in some, but not in all cases. A' sovereign remedy for this disease is not easily íound. A correspondent from Connectieüt contributes the following on this subject: " Sick headache is periodical and is the signal of distress which the stomach puts up to inform us that there is an over-alkaline condition of its fluids; that it needs a natural acid to restore the battery to its normal worlung condition. When the first symptoms of a headache appear, take a teaspoonful of lemon juice clear, fifteen minutes before each meal, and the samo dose at bed-time ; follow this up until all symptoms are passed, taking no other remedies, and you will soon be able to go free from your umvelcome nuisance. Many will objetit to this because the remedy is too simple, but I have seen i many cnres in this way."
