The New York Qraphic prints a fac j simile of an affidavit made to the Taxj Collector by William H. Vanoerbilt as to i his personal property. It was assessed ! at $1,000,000. The affidavit is as follows : " April 22, 1878.- I hereby swear that j my personal property, subject to tax: ation, does not exceed $1. My debts exceed all taxable personal property." As Vanderbilt is known to mvn millions of dollars' worth of railroad and telegraph stocks, tliis extraordinary evasion of personal taxation, common as such evasion is, excites astonishment. Where the Missing Men Go To. A New York exchange tells " How men Suddenly Disuppear from Our Streets." We haven't read the article, but we suppose they suddenly dart up an alley iu order to enter the saloon from the rear. We have seen scores of men suddenly disappear from the streets in the same manner. - Norrisioicii HeraM.
