Hia heirs found, iustead of a will, a voluminous manuscript of 2,000 pages upon liumps. He was rich, and traveled in every direction for iuformation. It was in the milder regions of Europe that he fonnd the misfortune the most prevalent. Spain supplied the greatest number, and in a circuinscribed loenlity at the foot of the Sierra Morena there existed one humpbacked individual to every thirteen inhabitants. They were also found very numerous in the valley of the Loire in Franco. The wiiter's conclusión was that for every thousand persions on the globe there was one humpback, or an aggregate of a million against the thousaud millions of the entire earth. The last page of the manuscript contained the will of the deceased, which said nothing regar ding the disposition of his property, but simply desired tliat a hujnp of marble sliould be raised npon histoinb with the insoription : "Here lies a hnmpback, who lmd a taste for buropp, and knew moro ubout them tliaii any othcr humpbüclc."
