One of the Kansas refugees, by the name of'TJncIe Tom," was asked by a northern "Eva" if he liad ever heard of God. "Well no Miss Eva 1 dont believe I ever has, but I guess I've heard of bis brOther." "God'a brother? asked Eva with surprise. "Probably not his brother" said "Unde Tom" "but aman whose name sounds like dat Missa' Goilanun my old Massa used to talk heaps about him when he got inad." Miss Eva grew discouraged at lier missionary work and asked, "Did you ever hear of Heaven? "llcaven" s;iid l 'nek' Toni, scratching liis hcad, "1 don't think 1 ever heard of dat place." "Why Uncle Tom," cried Eva, "hav'ent you heard of tbat good place where everybody is so happy." "Mess your soul honey, all us cullud folk have hearn of dat place, but we clon't cali it Heaven we cali it Kansas." Miss Eva swooned.
