MANCHESTER—Residents of Manchester, Freedom township and other sections of Washtenaw county joined yesterday in offering congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. William Uhr, sr., upon the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary.

Theirs has been a happy wedded life since they spoke the vows more than half a century ago in Wiesbaden, Germany, and Mr. Uhr has prospered in his trade as a mason both in Germany and in this country.

Each has reached the age of four score; Mr. Uhr is 85 years of age and his wife, 81. Born in Germany, they came to this country in 1882, settling in Freedom township. They moved to Manchester more than 55 years ago and have lived here since that time. Enjoying good health, they have continued their interest in the affairs of the village and in the news of the outside world.

Mr. Uhr followed his trade of mason for 66 years, and long before advanced age made it necessary for him to put down the trowel, two of his sons were ready to carry on in his place. They have been responsible for the sturdy construction of scores of buildings in several sections of Washtenaw county.

The couple have eight children, 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Their children are: Mrs. Fred Schaible, jr., Fred Uhr, William Uhr, jr., and Mrs. Glenn Adams, all of Manchester; Charles Uhr of Jackson; Mrs. Oliver Edwards of Grand Rapids and Mrs. T. F. Savage and Mrs. Freda Moore of Detroit.
