DOUGHTY, MOORE RANK AMONG NATION’S BEST

Two players who could turn out to be the nation’s top two college rushers will be opponents in Michigan Stadium on Saturday when Michigan and Missouri collide.
Tailback Glenn Doughty, a Michigan sophomore, and Joe Moore, a Missouri junior, rank fourth and fifth today among the nation’s leading rushers but they have each played in just two games while the three men above them have each played in three games.
Doughty’s rushing total is 329 yards in 44 tries while Moore had 321 yards in 47 carries.
The leader is Kent State’s Don Nottingham who has rushed for 544 yards in 92 plays in three games. West Virginia’s Bob Gresham has 354 yards in 47 carries in three games and West Virginia’s Jim Braxton had 340 yards in 77 carries in three games.
Gary Baxter of Air Force is the nation’s leader in total offense on 749 yards while Southern Methodist’s Chuck Hixson has accounted for 734 yards. Each has played three games.
Michigan quarterback Don Moorhead also is among the leaders in total offense although not in the top 10. Moorhead is 17th in the nation on 433 yards, right behind Indiana’s Harry Gonso who has 444 yards.
