One of the most popular professors who has taught at the University will instruct farmers, businessmen, construction workers or whoever may be interested in “Astronomy: From Myth to Science.”
Dr. Hazel M. Losh, U-M professor-emeritus of astronomy, will begin teaching the class at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Room 2003 of Angell Hall. The class will meet for two hours each Monday for eight weeks. Persons may register at the opening session.
“Time” magazine once described her marking system as “A” for athletes, “B” for boys and “C” for coeds. But her former U-M students say it was an unfair assessment because despite her keen interest in sports, Dr. Losh has a reputation for not playing favorites.
Never-the-less, she has always had a warm spot in her heart for athletes who flocked to her astronomy courses in great numbers over the years. All-American football greats such as Tom Harmon, baseball stars and track champions have been her students. She never misses a football game in Michigan Stadium and always is a leader at pre-game pep rallies.
As for her class under auspices of the University Center for Adult Education this fall, she plans to combine lectures with visitations to the U-M planetarium and astronomical observatories to give her adult students a chance to see the planets as well as hear about them.
The center is jointly sponsored by the U-M, Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University.
